Dr. Shelley Perlove, University of Michigan Professor Emerita of Art History, and author of the award-winning book, Rembrandt’s Faith: Church and Temple in the Dutch Golden Age, will present a lecture exploring the complex relationships between Rembrandt's art and faith, with a particular focus on the artist's fascination with Judaism. This lecture accompanies the exhibition "Rembrandt and the Jews: The Berger Print Collection" on display at the Skirball Museum from March 5 – April 30, 2017. Stay after the lecture to view the exhibition which was organized by the Westmont Ridley-Tree Museum of Art in Santa Barbara, CA, and features 22 Rembrandt etchings of Jewish and biblical subjects and a drawing by Pieter Lastman, Rembrandt’s teacher. Also on view will be two Rembrandt etchings from the B’nai B’rith Klutznick Collection of the Cincinnati Skirball Museum.

Dr. Perlove's lecture is presented by the Cincinnati Skirball Museum of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in partnership with The Mayerson JCC.
