Join us on December 10th to observe Human Rights Day, the anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. On the day prior, December 9, 1948, the Assembly approved the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide. The word genocide was coined by Raphael Lemkin, who fought tirelessly to come up with a word to describe the mass atrocities that occurred to the Armenians during WWI and to Jews during the Holocaust. In this digital Gallery Talk, HHC staff members Jodi Elowitz and Trinity Johnson will discuss Lemkin’s impact and the importance of naming these atrocities.
