Yad Vashem criticizes Netanyahu: Israel Update

Yad Vashem, the Israeli Holocaust Memorial Museum, slammed an agreement between the governments of Israel and Poland regarding the latter’s record during the Holocaust, saying it would stifle free research on the subject. The joint statement between the two countries, made last week, "contains highly problematic wording that contradicts existing and accepted historical knowledge in this field" according to the press release made by the museum. Yad Vashem is in opposition to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who last week hailed the agreement and the joint statement that was issued on the occasion as safeguarding “the historic truth about the Holocaust.” The agreement of the two governments comes at the end of long negotiations and deliberations regarding the role of Poland and the Polish people during the Holocaust and Israeli relations with Poland.
